What would you wear for a job interview?

I am so confused sometimes as this question is very current in my life. What is appropriate and what is not? Is the knee-lenght skirt a strict rule or could you wear a mid-thight skirt with a twist? Is a coat, especially a winter coat important in your outfit or is it not as you take it off very quickly? Is there anything else besides blouses, cardigans and blazers?
